Dumerils Humidity Requirements?

Scottico Jun 28, 2010 12:53 PM

What's a good humidity range for a Dumerils boa? I read here and there that they come from a "semi-arid" climate with little rainfall but I read in other places that they should be kept at 60% humidity? Hmmmm.

Any professionally informed suggestions?

Thanks!

Dumerils boas are very tolerant in a range of conditions. In my experience, they do best with the humidity anywhere between 30-60%. As far as temperature, they seem to prefer being about 83-85 degrees. The cool end of my cage is about 75°, and it's about 85° in their hides from the under-tank heat pads. I also use a heat lamp that gets up to 90° where my gravid female likes to bask. I hope this helps out.

I keep mine anywhere from 50-70%, mostly because it's very dry in my home, and a sudden dip in my humidity source will take me 20% lower in minutes. Generally speaking, somewhere between 40-60% is a good bet. If your sheds take a long time, or come off in pieces, consider going to the higher end of that range. Other than that, you should be set.
