Exceptional Normal Burm

Greg Conner Jul 13, 2010 09:44 PM

This guy was a nice surprise this year. He came from a clutch of Granites , Albino Granites and Normal Double Hets. The mother of that clutch is a pick of the litter, Normal Color, Puzzle Pattern Double Het. Father is Granite Het Albino. Enjoy!

That is a gorgeous snake!
I would take that over a granite, lab, albino whatever.
Nice. D.C.

When I look at him, I immediately think of animal prints. Leopard print to be exact.

That is one of the craziest het albino granites I have seen Greg! Congrats! Are you sure there is not het green in that guy? He looks amazing!

Thanks Everyone!
Ben, I was wondering the same thing . There were 2.2 of those in that clutch. He is the most extreme but the others are real similar. There were several of the more standard looking puzzle pattern granite hets in there, as well as Granites and Albino Granites. I suppose it's possible that there is Green influence as I did back up the Granite male late in the season with a Bedrock male, but it would require that the Granite was the father of 85% of the clutch while the Bedrock fathered the remaining 15%. Is that possible? Anyone had similar experiences? I'll have to do some experimenting this coming season. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more of those ..... Thanks!

Greg,
I know it is possible in dogs so I don't see why it can't happen in reptiles. We had 2 dogs come in while I was working at the vet clinic that once dna was run showed that each litter had been sired by 2 different males. One litter had a genetic defect so all but 1 puppy died and there were like 11 puppies in that litter so just the 1 puppy had a different sire, needless to say that dumbfounded us all as to how just 1 puppy was sired out of that male.

I've had a couple different clutches of burms where that happened. One clutch a few years ago I had around 30 babies hatching out from an albino green female. The main male that bred her was a green not het for albino. I also had an albino male het for green lab with her. I was cutting the eggs and noticed all green babies until around the 20th egg I came across a normal albino, then a few eggs later there was an albino green as well.

Thanks for the replies. I have long suspected that to be the case. I guess these 4 could go either way then. They sure are suspicious looking. I'll make some adjustments this breeding season and see what happens.
Thanks, Greg

Greg Conner Jul 30, 2010 06:49 PM

Hey Vic,
Same Greg, still at it. Good to hear from you Man.
Funny how back then there were no morphs, only normals, and most looked pretty much the same. They sure have come a long way. I like them all but a real nice "Normal" is still a beautiful sight.
