geyri egg hatched!!

fishkeeper88 Jul 19, 2010 03:47 PM

after 67 days of incubation my one last good geyru egg out of 14 hatched this morning! Iam disapointed that only one out of 14 hatched but one is better than none as its my first time breeding/incubateing uros,

but i have a couple question, i plan to keep him in a plastic bin with a normal incandesant bulb for heat, it says on doug dixs site to keep them cooler than adults but how much cooler? and a zoo med 10% for UVB like i have for adults,

can anyone elaberate a bit on the feeding of adult feaces to hatchlings? shoud i do it afew times and dos it have to be from the parents or will any healthy geyri do?

I would provide the same heat/uv that adults get. As for feces from what I have read as long as its any healthy geyri you should be fine, just put it in the babies enclosure once a day for the first week would be my assumption

In regards to feeding feces, I have done this with hatchling ornates and sudanese in the past. What I did was just their first 1 to 2 days of hatching. I made sure I crushed it up into very small pieces so they didn't have any issues swallowing it.

I have a photo below but it isn't the greatest shot. My one group of Sudanese a few years ago wouldn't start eating greens until they had that special first meal.

I'm curious... Can you feed them Pro-biotic instead of the older Uro's feces? Or, do they need the smell of the poo to stimulate their appetite?
