20 year old ig

ig1990 Jul 20, 2010 05:05 PM

Just wondering does anyone else have an ig that they personaly have had for 20 years?
I've had Gweenie since 1990 and have moved cross country 2x with her. She is such a part of the family.
I know 2 specialists one a vet the other a resuce and both said they have never seen a captive ig live longer then 15 years.
She has slowed a little but not that much for being such and old girl.

Hi, I am the owner of a Iguana that was captive born in 1990. I owned his parents, that lived to be 23 and 25 yrs old. I could not live a full life without one. My CB 20 yr.old looks grate and is bright orange like his sire, and in fact looks just like him. The all lived in outside enclosures in N.Fl.and were brough inside in our short winters. Captive breeding was rare then (in 1990)and after seven years in captivity they never bred intil I put a mirror in the cage and the male went nuts combating his own reflection. One thing I remember well is that I'd seen better looking dead Ig's than a live Ig.that just layed eggs. Vic Morgan

There was an article in Repltiles Magazine a few months back where the author wrote a touching story about a male she had for 24 years.
