To my beginner morelia eyes that looks like just a plain ole Jungle Carpet Python.

This is my JCP from Barker/Lasik lines.

Thanks, I wasnt sure if it was a coastal mix or an irian jaya or something but being a plain old carpet python would that make it a M. spilota cheynei???

I assume all Jungles in the US have some coastal blood in them, purely by virtue of the fact they were both bred for years before jungles were recognized as being something more that just a nice carpet python, but a legitimate subspecies.

Zebra carpets made it out of Oz, so there are some "true jungles" making it into europe on occasion.

For us in the US, when lineage is unknown physical appearance can be enough to label an animal, we're really dealing with phenotypes at this point. This doesn't appear to have any Irian Jaya (now called western papuan)in it and I'd have no problem calling it M.s.cheynei.

Thanks Bryan! I tend to suggest folks wanting as pure as possible look to spend a bit more and look for a well known carpet breeder. Thankfully I know and trust the folks I got mine from and know they are serious about lineage.

This was one of those impulse buys.Ive always wanted another carpet python and well this one presented itself and I couldnt resist(none of my other snakes are petstore snakes so this is a first). My last one was a coastal mix and was the meanest snake alive.I got bit no less then 15 times every time I picked it up..Unfortunately it met with an untimely death, got out and got squished.
this new one is way mellow compared to my last.He/she has struck out a few times but that was it, hasnt bit me yet.Im leaving it alone for a week now so it can acclimate.
