Hello,
Here is a link to make your public comment. This proposed rule change attempts to ban the commercial activity such as the sale, interstate transportation and international import or export of nine species of constrictor snakes. It will make ordinary, law abiding citizens into criminals.
If this proposal is to become law...when a person crosses state lines with their pet Boa Constrictor they will have committed a felony.
We need to oppose this potentially damaging Rule Change. Please submit your public opinion in opposition of the USFWS Rule Change.
If enacted this Rule Change will have negative consequences on Conservation, Education, Ecology, and the Economy.
In an already ailing economy, countless jobs will be lost or negatively affected. Veterinary Clinics, Pet Stores, Caging and Cage Accessory Manufacturing Companies, Shipping Companies, Animal Bedding Suppliers, Animal Feed Manufacturing Companies, Private Businesses and many other segments of the economic fabric will be negatively impacted.
This proposed rule change will negate the importance of captive breeding efforts in the countries to which these species of snakes are native.

Captive Breeding is crucial to conservation. Conservation through commercialization is effective.
This law seeks to not only diminish the efforts of those who breed animals in captivity....it seeks to erase it completely as well as make it a crime.
When the general public has access to safe, hands-on interaction or ownership of species, such as these constrictor snakes, it fuels their curiosity. This curiosity fuels their thirst for knowledge. The knowledge helps to further mainstream conservation efforts.
If we allow legislation to remove or restrict human interaction with these species....the general public will tend to forget or overlook the importance of conserving these animals. As they say, "Out of sight...out of mind".

Please make your public comment before Aug 2, 2010. A short deadline...but an important one.
Anyone who is reading this email, please feel encouraged to forward this message to as many people as possible.

I was amazed the other day to see your name on the forums when I checked out kingsnake.com for the first time ever. This is a great site!

Anyhow, I'm getting into herps again after about a decade long break from them. Sometime in the mid-90s, I ordered my first retic and burm from you... they were wonderful animals, and at that time I remember being amazed at the variety of herps you worked with just from reading through your newsletter/price sheet.

Yesterday, I spent a couple hours browsing your website. I love it! Very, very interesting. I learned a lot, and especially enjoyed all the Back In the Day stuff you have up there. I never knew how big of a role you've played in the world of herps during the past decades.

I just wanted to share that with you and say thanks. People in the reptile community are lucky to have you around. Keep on "herpin'"

I hope they considered the added stress this law would put onto an already taxed criminal system. Not to mention the added costs to law enforcement, the added staff at Fed Ex/UPS/Airlines, border check points, Customs, blah bah, that it would take to make sure the laws are being upheld. Mention raised taxes for everyone and I'm sure a lot of the ignora..I mean "general" public will have a second thought about the learning the facts..
