burms are still being found in the wild in Florida ? With the winter freeze last winter, some had thought that that may have take a toll on them.

The Burms still exist here but in very low numbers compared to pre-freeze years. Most seem to be smaller ones as well. To my knowledge NO babies have been seen this year indicating perhaps very few reproduced as in past years babies were often found...thanks

My friend caught three 6 foot plus ones in the last two weeks and the first baby was captured on the strech 4 days ago by one of the construction workers expanding US1 just south of Florida city.

Interesting, thanks for the responses. Tom, I had acquired leucistic eastern garters from you many years ago at the Orlando expo. Have these ever resurfaced in Florida (or elsewhere) that you know of ?

I remember those Garters well but have no idea of where they went. I'm guessing the line was lost somehow as I never see them for sale...thanks

Thanks for the info, mine had passed away w/in 2 years, plus the het mama that popped them. These are pics of a Pennsylvania leucistic eastern garter strain. I had bred a flame to this line and the flame trait leached into the leucism, creating pale orangish and a few bright orange lucies.

I'm surprised that any of them made it, what about some of the other invasive species?

Does anyone know the status SREL study? Did the Burms survive the winter?

I've talked with several people "in the know" and what is known is that they are keeping everything about this "experiment" hush hush. What I will say though is this, if the snakes in Shawn's experiment died within 4 days there is no way the snakes up here in Aiken County, SC could have survived our winter. I moved back up here on Xmas eve and it was bitterly cold with freezing mornings into late march. I feel with all the political involvement the results are being kept quiet or will be skewed with man-made heat sources to keep the animals alive.

I know down here in Atlanta the freeze was brutal, I would be surprised if any survived.

Being that there is now 66 days left until Nov. 2 (shet-can day) and the current high unemployment rate in this, and the fact that there have been so many home for closures which don't help with the current and growing attitude to fire incumbent politicians nation wide. Do you suppose the politicians who greenlighted a project that is going to result in an outcome that could have been predicted by an 8 year wnats that info to get out? How much of our tax money was wasted on that project so far? How many people who are behind in their taxes are out there and do you really want them to catch wind of that project? The whole bailing out the bankers thing was bad enough. Quite honestly I'm hot enough about that whole thing that I people robbing banks doesn't bother me anymore, good for them, let them take back some of the money that has been stolen from us. I would much rather see some crack head blow it on crack than some ceo get a bonus and take a vacation in the bahamas while the rest of us out there wonder how we are going to pay our basic bills because THEY screwed up the economy.
So far here in Fl. bill mccullom is out of the gov's race. mccullom is the guy who sat on his hand and let bill nelson become our senator. it's a good start. In 2 more years nelson will be out, perhaps not because he is running around wrapped in python skins or because his drunken son runs around beating up cops but very likely because he dropped the ball on the space coast. The lay-offs in cape canaveral have already started and they are going to be huge and they are all going to blame the space man for it. It's a good start if you ask me.
