I have found this scat on my deck and storage building (all over two shelves but not on floor). I am very knowledgeable about snakes, but not on lizards. Is this scat from a lizard or from another type of animal? If you think lizard, do you know what kind? I live in Franklin County, Virginia. Thanks!

Looks like lizard scat. If it is inside the storage shed on shelves, most likely Mediterranean Gecko. Mostly noturnal so not seen during the day. I have them on my house here in Texas and they do not care where they drop their scat. I have also noticed that it sticks to walls much like your picture shows. Not able to tell size of scat from pic but, Med Geckos are only 4 inches long or so. Scat is about 3/8 inch.

Look for them at nite with a flashlight. They will be very light color.

Hope it helps.

If you're in Virginia, it would probably be a type of fence swift...I don't think there are geckos in your state. Only other lizards are skinks, mostly found on the ground.

Yep,looks like a lizard turd to me!I'm in Lunenburg Cty. Va. and see these all the time on my deck.More than likely you have some 5 lined skinks around!Personally I like them! Take care! Jeff
