Video of box turtle pond and pen

boxienuts Aug 14, 2010 03:23 PM

heres a short little video of the box turtle pen that I built this spring, the pond has become really overgrown with plants but the boxies seem to love crawling among them and basking in the water in the dappled shade when its really hot out. The vid also includes our goldfish/kio pond, it has lots of frogs, toads, and snakes too, and the birds like to use the shallow end to water and take a bath.

That is amazing. I love the stream leading into the big pond....and the swing...an added bonus. Wow.

Wow, I am so jealous! Did you install this yourself?

Thanks guys.
I dug both ponds by hand with a spade shovel and hauled all the stone, with the help of a friend, over 30 tons of rock and gravel. Sore back for a month but it was worth it.

Very creative! You're right, backbreaking but well worth it.

Thanks guys, it was a ton of backbreaking work, but now the turtles and I get to kick back and enjoy it. The boxies must like it, since I have two clutches in the incubator, might be more that I didn't find to, I would like to think the eggs were their way of thanking me for their new love shack.

Wow! OK, this may sound like a dumb question, but .... If you have a pond that's deep enough to circulate and filter the water, will box turtles ever be in danger of straying into the "deep" end and getting into trouble? I want to do a pond, but not quite sure how to incorporate it into a boxie habitat. Ideas?
