Large group of young garters

varanid Aug 21, 2010 10:20 PM

OK. One of my coworkers has a sister that works in an elementary school. They ordered 12 garter snakes (I don't know where from) as classroom pets, and got something like 2x that amount. They want me to take some of the extra, probably 8 or 9 of them. I don't know what species they are yet (probably checkered or blackneck? Those seem like the most common on the pet trade?).

I was wondering about setting them up in a spare 40 breeder I had since they're a large group? I don't have 10 available baby tubs right now, though I guess I could rearrange things a bit. My plan would be to put in 2-3" of mulch, 2 water bowls (one on each end), a basic halogen flood and maybe a UV light. I'll probably place 3-4 pieces of untreated scrap lumber (different sizes, pine) that I have from a bit of work I did on my garage as hides. Apparently these are feeding on minnows right now.

We wouldn't have 6 and a half billion people if you had to be beautiful to get laid.
