Vanilla or Vinegar for Mice

Paul_D Aug 26, 2010 11:54 AM

I've come across in a couple places that you can add vanilla or vinegar to the drinking water to reduce the odor from raising mice. I was hoping someone could give me some feedback about which one works better, how much to add to the water, and if there are any negative side effects when it comes to breeding. The last thing I want is mice that smell great but don't produce babies :P

I do not use it since it tends to slime up the bottles. I have also heard it really doesn't work well enough for all the bother. I change cages to control odor. I want to say it is vanilla 1/2 tsp per gallon. I would google it if it were me.

Marshall Pet Bi-Odor Ferret Waste Deodorizer
My friend who has a small pet store swears by this product. She has several types of rodents, such a mice and rats, in her shop but you'd never notice it as they hardly smell at all.
