a couple shorthead garter pics

found this guy hanging out in my backyard the other day.
does anyone know what the NY population of these looks like? are they all gone?

I've only found Shortheads in PA, though there's a "secret" population of them here in Ohio. That snake looks a heck of alot like a Lined Snake - I'm thinking because of it's overall grayish appearance. It seems like that one is seriously lacking yellow.

the shorthead garter snake has been the most common snake I've found for as long as I've been finding snakes, lol. the "common" garter snake is nowhere near as common as the shortheads.
and they come in at least 6 different pattern variations, I'm attempting to get photos of all these in the near future...

That is a very nice looking snake Mike. I don't know anything about the shorthead garters, other than seeing the other photos that you have posted in the past, but it's very interesting. Would really like to see a photo collection of the different locales when you get done.
