baby chix aws snake food

bwhitlock Aug 29, 2010 11:19 PM

Is anyont feeding frozen/thawed small chix to their colubrids or juvenile boas/pythons? They are about the same size as XL mice, but a lot cheaper. Is there some down side I dont know about? Just tried it, and most of my snakes went right for them.

Thanks,

Bill

I have been feeding my colubrid and small retics chicks all summer. I would not feed only chicks but if you do chicks every other or every third feeding I think you would be fine. I cant speak for anyone else but I have noticed explosive growth whith the snakes that have taken to chicks. I think the snakes are able to digest them very quickly and as a result I have also noticed the snakes that eat them do not stay full as long or seem to be hungry again just a few days after eating one.

Do they really weigh out as big as that? I have raised many chicks....they are lightweight. No way are they any 80 grams like a XL mouse. At least not until you have put a week or two into growth. Then too I am always paranoid about medicated chick feeds and them going into my herps.
