My 2010 Thayeri Holdbacks

jonellopez Sep 01, 2010 04:12 AM

I told myself earlier this year that I will try to cut back on my snake collection and not hold back anything this season. BUT, these two sons of Sharktooth were just too handsome to let go. I hope these two become future studs down the road. The mother of these hatchlings is a yellow leonis phase that came from Mike B. a few years back that I carefully matched to get some nice yellow animals. "Great success!" Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

Here's a "hypo-ish" looking yellow male. Even the head pattern is almost devoid of black pigments. You can also barely see it from the pic but he has an orange tail as well. Similar to what Mike B. have been producing from his nice animals.

Here's a yellow MSP that actually caught my eye first when I checked the incubation box. The reduced black and contrast between the yellow and red is very eye catching. I hope he follows his father's foot-steps (for snakes I guess that would be belly-undulation?).

VERY nice, Jonel. Both thayeri are exceptional, but the first is a real stunner, and a model for what I hope to achieve someday with my small collection. BTW, if you get tired of the either of the holdbacks (LOL), I'd be happy to provide a great home for either of them . . .

Congratulations,

Tom

Thanks Tom. Looking from what you have there you are very close on getting what you want to produce. The right paring with that animal should give you the results you want. BTW, congratulations on what you produced this season. I saw some beautiful animals as well.

Both very nice Jonel....
I haven't seen many milk snake phase thayeri with reduced black....Very cool looking......

The two MSP's I got from Sharktooth's brother are rather "normal" looking to me....They have a yellow spot on their black heads....Maybe something to work with there, but I dunno......

Hey John

Reduced black MSP are beautiful in their own right. I've been seeing some spectacular animals from Tim G.'s stock and they are something to behold. I've also seen some with wide red bands accompanied by very narrow yellow bands which looked very cool. Anyway, you should keep one of those hatchlings from Sharktooth's brother for future breeding. You never know what will pop out a generation or two from now. Talk to you later.

Beautiful animals Jonel. Like you, I'm having a hard time not keeping several of my thayeri this year too.

Hey Brad

With the animals you're working with I'm not surprised that you're holding back some animals as well. I remember the time when Bob J. was selling some yearlings/sub-adults a couple of years back. When I tried to contact him about them he mentioned that you and Bob H. had purchased the whole group. Bummed me out at that time but I'm glad they feel into good hands with you guys.

Talk to you later.
