First ever clutch photos

cadmus Sep 02, 2010 06:00 PM

Well i cannot count (there were 12 eggs). 2 were dead in egg (both yellow phase leonis without bilateral symmetry in pattern). I currently have 9 young thayeri. 3 of which have already eaten - all of which have shed. Thank you Michelle and Bob. Next task is getting them to eat. College football and baby thayeri - its a great time of year.

one bad egg (fertile but very little development) - it had about 25% of its surface area against the plastic

That is a solid looking clutch......I like the three cream yellow leonis ones.......
Great job......Good luck getting them all to eat.......

all i did was get out the way and watch. as well as apply advice form the board (you included). thanks. i cannot adequately capture the color of those leonis (or the bands of the msp for that matter which are quite yellow) - the flash washes them out. once they get them on feed ill try to get photos and read into my camera manual so i can take it off "a".

the pale ones are actually yellowish like the father and the bands on two of milksnakes are also very yellow. In hand i really think those msp have a lot going on . . .

Nice ones. Could you please post some photos of the parents? Really nice looking batch. Another reason why I seriously want to get a pair of Thayeri.

cadmus Sep 13, 2010 09:03 PM

here are photos of the adults - female turned a very earthy orange color as she aged

Nice variability, plus some real lookers! Congratulations, and good luck getting them all to eat! I had my first thayeri clutch this year as well, and finally the last two out of eight are starting to take brained F/T pinks on their own. Patience does pay off!

congratulations - i hope i can get everybody eating. 5 of 9 right now. about how long did it for the last two to finally eat from the time they hatched or shed?

tgcorley Sep 06, 2010 11:36 AM

It took nearly six weeks. I put the non-eaters in a dark, warm (~82 F) spot along with a cozy hide and left the brained pink right at the the entrance to the hide. To my surprise, it worked! They had NO interest in eating up until that point. Good luck!

dang. im at week three and concerned.

Great looking clutch. I really like the variability. I also had my first clutch this year....so far have 3 out of 5 eating frozen thawed. These guys are not as easy to get started as the corns, pueblans & cal kings I've hatched, but I think they are worth it. Here's pictures of my 2 best eaters:

your hatchlings look great.

Awesome clutch, try assist feeding. Get the snake behind the head holding it by the sides (thumb on right, index on left) push a pinky between its mouth till it opens up and bites the pinky's head at the same time set the snake down and it should start downing the pinky on its own from there. It may take a few tries but usually works.

will give it a shot 6 of 9 eaten. currently at 3 wks post hatch.
