eye issue? beardie

po Sep 12, 2010 12:11 PM

hey!
just got another beardie dumped on me, the story I got was that she was bought as a proven breeder, but came to the guy in crap shape. Im going to try to get her healthy and adopt her out.

My top concern is her eyes, she seems to keep them closed as if they hurt, she is active considering her low BCS, but when going for food she seems to not want to open her eyes and focus well enough to get much, hasn't caught any crickets over the last 24 hrs, going to try worms today. Eyes do not appear to have any discharge, but I am going to try a saline flush to see if that helps. I don't want to bother my herp vet friend on the weekend, will get in touch with him this week, but thought Id put this up in case anyone thinks of something I haven't!

thanks!

Are the eyes healthy looking? Inflammed, or reddened conjunctiva is often blamed on Vitamin A deficiency. Whether or not that's always the case is debatable, however if that is the problem, corrected diet will fix the it.
You can also have a close look into the pupil and cornea to inspect for corneal damage, debris, or defect within the globe. Not that you'll have an ophthalmoscope or will be able to do much if you find anything, but it's something to do on the weekend
