Sexing Candoia Carinata Carinata

nm2612 Sep 22, 2010 07:27 AM

Hello,

i have 4 Candoia C. Carinata Carinata. If i believe the experts sexing is so easy, males have spurs en females don't or just have small ones. I bought a new animal last week and saw several beautifull specimens, but none of them had spurs! Still i don't believe all these animals were females. The animal i bought is almost for sure a male but has no spurs. Anyone can give me a clue?

Believe the experts, females have no claws at all.Sexing can also be done by doing a scale count. This is easy,if you have a shed skin to work with.Males have longer tails.Count the ventral scales from the vent to the tip of the tail.Compare this count with another one of your females.Scale counts probably differ slightly from island to island, but should not differ much.jenni/
