Looking for experience

YMICDan Sep 30, 2010 08:40 PM

Just curious, does anyone else here have any FIRST HAND experience with Pseudoxenodon or Macropisthodon?

Specifically interested in Macropisthodon rhodomelas and Pseudoxenodon bambusicola - But i'll take any general genus experience that you may have.

Thanks in advance.

Pseudoxenodon is not a good species to keep.
They live very covered and feed hardly, I kept them some time ago.
Macropisthodon is a interesting genus, but they seems to be hard, too.

Can you tell me more about Pseudoxenodon then please, as long as it is your experience with them.

I have kept both before. I am just looking to compare notes and come up with a plan as to how to keep them better this time.

I kept Pseudoxenodon in a cage ( 1x0,5x0,5 m )
Live plants and moss to hide (and earth)
Between 25 and 30 degrees
They do not accept any food item I offered them, so I had to force fed them every time. One specimen died after some month, one specimen aprox 1 year.
I talked to different keepers, all same story.

25-30? That is much warmer than mine!

Did yours not eat by themselves at all. Mine were feeding heavily on golden frogs. I do not try to feed them rodents, they can not digest properly and easliy stressed so the act of forcing does not help the parasite load.

Interesting, thank you!
