Jungle Carpet or Carpet mix?

joshp83 Oct 01, 2010 09:21 AM

I'm planning to buy this adult female carpet. I think she's about 4 years old. I'm told she is a jungle carpet, but I'm a little curious that she's a jungle/coastal mix or some mix. Anyone care to share their thoughts?

Thanks!

It looks pretty "Jungly" to me, but morelia aren't really my strong forte. You might want to go to the "Morelia pythons" forum here on KS to verify this.

I would say jungle. The problem is hybrids can produce sibs which look like one of the dom parents, but carry the genes. Look jungle to me, but I get fuzzy on some of the hybrids and sibs at times. I would suggest posting to the Morelia forum like doug said.

Here is an old shot of my jungle for reference.

Unless you know some highly connected and unsavory people you have 0% chance of owning a pure jungle. All jungles were crossed with coastals prior to jungles being recognized as a subspecies. Assume any carpets you by in the US, including zebras, as being crosses of some kind. The jungle traits are hobby assigned ideals, no matter what anyone says. Plus genetically the difference is minimal.

It's a beautiful and healthy animal, that's enough for me.
