Thinking about getting some cbb spotteds, but need permits first.
Anyone out there can walk me throught the process? First the permits, then the enclosure, are my first 2 steps.

Give it up-DEC is not issuing ANY permits for private keeping of native herps, to my knowledge. Sorry.

Your responder named “brhaco” is incorrect. You CAN get a permit to keep certain herptiles that are native to New York State. It's called the “GENERAL PERMIT FOR THE COLLECTION AND POSSESSION OF AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES FOR EDUCATIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES” and is applied for to, and issued by, your local office of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation; Division of Fish, Wildlife, and Marine Resources; Bureau of Wildlife. You might find where your local office is by going on the web to www.dec.ny.gov and doing a little looking around.
 
Unfortunately, Spotted Turtles are NOT on the list of animals for which you can get a permit.

I misspoke-they will give permits out if you can document yourself as an educator, professional presenter, etc. But they aren't going to hobbyists.
