Tegu not eating.

DavidTetreault Oct 05, 2010 03:41 PM

I have an adult male Argentine B&W that was given to me because the people could not keep it. It had gotten out of thier house and was living under thier neighbors shed for 2 weeks. After they found it it wouldn't eat. Do they go through a seasonal fast like other reptiles? It is healthy. They were only feeding it rats.

I have a 4 month old female doing the same thing. Should I be concerned? She looks healthy, but I think she is to small to hibernate. Does anyone know of any tricks to get trouble tegus to eat?

If she want to hibernate she will hibernate!
The babies hibernate the first winter in natura.

Mine is eating now. He only wants rats and boneless chicken. I have tried fruits and veggies but he won't touch them.

I have found that mine go through dietary changes before they hibernate. They become more selective, only seem to want want rodents, then quit eating all together.

As an aside, make sure to supplement the boneless chicken with calcium.
