Sorry, the pic was taken with my BB and tried to get the clearest picture possible.

I live east of Richmond, VA and found it beside my driveway in a dirt flowerbed that is unfinished.

Can anyone help me figure out what type of snake this is?

It's a Copperhead and although not deadly is venomous and can cause a lot of necrosis if bitten. It would ruin at least a week of your life if bitten. Having said that the snake is very beneficial to mankind as all snakes are and it would be better to move it and release it rather than kill it...thanks

Thanks guys for the replies! I'll relocate it to another location ASAP since even though the snake appears to be a baby (8" or so), I have kids under the age of 3.

I guess I will keep an eye out for the rest of the family.

It's tough to "relocate" an already dead snake. Unless of course you meant "relocating" it into the trash can, or simply tossing the snake corpse across the other side of your fence, etc....

Hey! That's a copperhead! I'm in Lunenburg Cty. Va. and that's pretty much what they look like here.Why did you kill it?
