Kingsnake weird shed?

krweber88 Oct 08, 2010 11:16 AM

I have a Black Mexican Kingsnake I have owned for about 5 or 6 years. I have never had a problem with his health at all.

I recently moved to Michigan about a month ago from Wisconsin. During the transition, he wasn't in the most ideal temporary housing for about a week... (aka no regular heat, basically in a storage bin) When he started to look like he wanted to shed, I set up his tank ASAP and got him a warm bath and back in his warm tank. He shed with no problems after that.

He recently shed again, and when he was about to shed (his eyes started to get cloudy) I noticed larger white patches on his belly. After the shed, he now has what looks like a few large chunks missing from his belly.

He's still eating fine (2 small adult frozen mice two days ago), and is as active as normal, which really isn't all that active. He actually sits on the colder side of the tank most of the time.

I would like to know if anyone has any ideas what this could be. I thought it was just a bad shed, but I asked a friend of mine who has owned many snakes and reptiles in the past, and she said it didn't look like any bad shed she'd ever seen.

I'd like to get a better idea of what it could be before I spend money I don't really have taking him to a vet.

Idk if the pic will work, but I have a couple pics of the spots I'm referring to...

Thanks for reading.

Rot, infection or and burn. Hard to say from the pictures and my old eyes but I would see if you can put him on newspaper(off stuff that is gonna stick to it and embed in it) and treat the areas with neosporin CREAM...not ointment. Petroleum products can sometimes make it worse. See how it responds.

Be sure he has good ambient heat without too cold so he isn't sitting on too much heat and burning.

Be what I would do.
