Mex Black King x Desert

chenderson421 Oct 08, 2010 11:48 PM

I have 2.2 Splendida and 1.1 Nigrita

The female nigrita may be up to size to breed next season, but i think i would rather wait and let her get a little bigger. One of my male splendida is just a year old now so he will not be able to do the deed next season either. I know i could put my adult male splendida with both females but i was considering putting the male nigrita with one of the female splendida. I was just looking for some pics of this cross if anyone has any.

It's sort of a pointless cross. Mexican Black Kings are basically a melanistic Splendida, and often hatch out looking just like Splendida, only to darken with age. The result of your cross would be babies that looked like Splendida, but didn't get fully black as adults.

There are natural intergrades between these types. There are some pictures in Brian Hubbs' book.

thanks for that info, looks like no nigrita, and more splendida next year.

I would post some pics of some of my MBK's X Desert hybrids if I could figure out how to on here. They are still babies having been born 2010. Only time will tell what they will end up looking like, but as for now they look like Deserts.
