breeding paulsoni

aaron1 Oct 11, 2010 12:52 PM

I have a breeding/sexing question. I have 8 adult Solomon Island ground boas. 4 of them are probably 4-5 feet long and are way bigger than my other four adults. None of these bigger adults have spurs. Out of my four smaller adults 3 have spurs and 1 does not. Are the smaller ones (about 2 feet long) all males? Or are the smaller and bigger snakes different sub-species? Are all paulsoni females that much bigger than males?

Any help would be appreciated.

Aaron

Female C.C.paulsoni are considerably larger than males and have very very tiny spurs or none at all. Males have noticable spurs and are smaller. Is it possible that your smaller one without spurs is a juvenile female?

As said before, male C. paulsoni are much smaller than the females. All else equal (age, feeding, etc...) the smaller ones are likely males.

Thanks. That helps. Would you guys suggest putting all 8 adults together to breed them?

I would split them into a couple smaller groups. 1-2 males to 1-3 females.

Hi Guys,

The males being considerably smaller than females isnot always the case....

I have two males here both are proven and both are 3ft just as big as my females.

I have just had 45 babies from my white female from one of these males so i'll post some pics of the males and babies

Cheers Matt

Ok. Thanks. It is possible the smaller one without spurs is a juvenile female, I just wasn't sure if they were different subspecies.
