They vary a lot from individual, but the surest way is the tale....which is longer and thicker in males....with the "butt" located way out past the shell edge when the tale is extended. Generally males have red eyes and females usually (not always) have brownish yellowish eyes. Males are more colorful in general (but coloration varies so much from individual to individual that is th elast reliable method). Females generally have a higher domed shell but that is something only apparent afeter looking at LOTS of boxies. The plastron (bottom part of shell) in females is flat, males have a concave (indent) in the center of their plastrons. You should be able to find photos on the web, or post some photos of your girl (pretty sure it is a girl) from underneath, including the estended tail.
Once again, read up on her care and be sure to ask plenty of questions here, so that she lives a healthy and long (many decades) life like she deserves!!
thanks will do. i've owned this turtle for about 13yrs now she was a gift to me and i cant remember how long the previous owner said he had her for. she has always free roamed the house which made her like the house dog. lol. now my mother purchased a new house and i would like to have my turtle back. house temp always stood no lower 72 and there was a sunny space in the master bedroom of the apartment which you could always catch her at around 12ish. its a pretty smart turtle i must say. ill have more pics up on the upcoming week!
