Can some one help me out and tell me what the aproximate gestation period for the western diamondback is. I have seen so many numbers that i do not know what to believe.

It does vary. Fall breeders typically give birth in June & July and Spring breeders give birth from July to September.

I have observed this birthing in captivity and in the field.

Tim is correct. I think fall breeders are storing sperm until spring when they ovulate and fertilize the eggs. Having bred in the fall may allow them to fertilize their eggs a little quicker than trying to wait for a male in the spring. Thus the gestation period is the similar and is certainly temperature dependent for both groups.
