How soon can I candle P. Pardalis eggs?

benA Oct 26, 2010 10:53 AM

First off, is it OK to candle P. Pardalis Leopard eggs? and how soon after laying should I be able to see anything? I am doing the 30 days of cooling before incubating.

Thanks,

Ben

Ben, I use a small mag lite in the dark and can see fertility after about 30 days. Go to Florida Iguana Tortoise Breeder's website and he has an outstanding picture of candling a tortoise egg on there. Very clear fertility. Good luck, Greg.

Just to clarify the meaning of the previous post, fertile eggs will show development 21-30 days after you start incubating them, not simply 30 days after they are laid if you are cooling them prior to incubation. Embryonic development only begins when they get placed into the incubator and becomes visible 21-30 days thereafter. Hope that makes sense.
