Hello Garter fans,

I am keeping several gartersnakes. All are eating earthworms at the moment. I would like to ge them on young mice in time. But winter is coming and I will need an alternate source of worms as the ground begins to freeze. I want to buy worms but I need to know which worm to buy and any suggestion of a good vendor.

Are red-wigglers really toxic to snakes? I have fed them to many turtles, fish and amphibs. What about the "new" European night crawler?

Any advice about transfering to pinkies?

I would use night crawlers over red wigglers, you can buy them at walmart. Switching over usually just simply required a period of scenting the rodent with worms or puting a mixture cut pieces of both mice and worms in a small plastic feeding dish.

I have fed "Canadian night crawlers" from Wal mart with no problems.

Buy a fillet of frozen Tilapia from the fish section at the grocery store and cut it up...

Garter snakes usually love chopped up fish, and this will be the first step to pinkie training.

after a few weeks of feeding the chopped fish, rub fish all over a pinkie so it smells like the fish and offer the pinkie.

99 percent of the time, that's all it takes, and you will have pink eaters.

The reason some of that fish looks bloody is I chopped up some pinkie and mixed it with the fish.

I exclusevly use frozen rodents.
