Brumating Beauty Snakes??

LloydHeilbrunn Oct 29, 2010 02:13 PM

I have seen mixed info on the necessity of brumating Beauty Snakes.

I have Blue Beauties, Yunnans, and Cave Rats I am hoping to breed this season.

Last year I tied to breed the Blues without cooling without luck, but I think I made a mistake by housing them together and not separating awhile before I attempted to breed them.

I am in Florida and my in house winter temps are 72-77.

What says the consensus?

hello lloyd. i live just outside orlando and i have a pair of ridleyi that laid this year on the first try for me. i did not brumate them. in the spring i introduced them and "love was in the air." haha... she laid 13 and 10 appear to be fertile. not too shabby for her first batch. should know for sure in the next week or so. they are still cooking hope all goes well for you...

I shut the heat off for about two months for my cave ratsnakes and let them get down into the upper 60's F. I keep mine separate until breeding. I am in central California.

Geckojon, if you are who I think you are I produced one of the cave ratsnakes you pictured (I don't recall which one you kept from the pair I sold you). They looks great, and congrats on the eggs! Have they hatched for you yet?

hello sam! yes, i got my male from you. he is about 7ft and an awesome ridleyi! thanks once again! below is a pic of "ricky". he has a great temperment! i ended up finding an unrelated female shortly after i talked with you last that was a nice match for him.

it's been 67 days, hopefully they will start to hatch any day now.....

hope you have had a great season as well.

Very cool Jonathan! Congrats on the eggs. I'm glad they are doing so well for you. Be patient with the eggs, I've had ridleyi go as long as 76 days before hatching.

Post some pics of the offspring when you get them.
