Unusual Color Broad Banded in East Texas

dolemite Oct 31, 2010 02:08 PM

Very Unusual- Broadbands here are usually dark- Captured and Released in a dry creek bed near Milam TX- about 7 miles from LA border. From a distance this looked just like a Southern Copperhead which is also native to the area.

That's the first Hypomelanistic Broad-Banded I've ever seen! I breed Hypo Bandeds and FL. Bandeds, and you have no idea how badly I want a pair of nice-colored Broad-Bandeds! PLEASE let me know if you come across this guy/gal again! Even dark, typical Broad-Bandeds are almost never offered for sale, not around here(east coast), anyway. I only just now got a pair of Diamondbacks.

I'ts good to see another broad banded fan on here!I got a pr. of La. natives earlier this yr. from a regular poster on the ratsnake forum. The smaller one accepted unscented pinky mice from the start and the larger one ate his first minnow scented rat pinky last night! They were really nippy at first but have calm down alot. Take care! Jeff

wow, I just did a post up at the top asking what kind of watersnake those were. I did not try to catch the one I saw, but he was the exact same color with a little more pronounced bands, looked to be a bit larger, but exact same color. That is cool, I just thought it was a normal type of watersnake.
