American Alligator and feeding

biggator Oct 31, 2010 06:04 PM

I have a 3ft. female gator, last month i got her out to handle her ( i usually handle her once a week) this was the second time handling her in three days and obviously it stressed her out. for the last 35 days she has only eaten a shrimp and a few minnows, so as you can tell she has lost her appetite. she has for the last few weeks returned to normal except for her appetite. what can i do to get her back to eating normally? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

What are her temps like? I'm not sure that just handling a gator a couple times within a week would really make them stop eating...it could be something else going on. Also, where do you live? Where's the alligator from? It could just have to do with the time of year as well...

so i took so long to reply. her temps are room-80-81, water 80-81 degrees. she has eaten about nine days out of two months. she just doesn't have the ravenous appetite she normally has. also, i live in west virginia so it does get cold here.
