Nov. herping in Oregon

RichardFHoyer Nov 03, 2010 11:54 PM

Western Oregon has experienced temperatures in the mid to upper 60's the past three days with yesterday and today being mostly sunny.

Went out today trying to see if I could come across my species of interest, the Rubber Boa. At the first 4 sites I visited, I observed our two local species of garter snakes. But at the 5th site, beside finding both the Northwestern and Red-spotted (Common) Garter Snakes, I also encountered three adult male boas which made my day.

Cindy:
Do not own a camera. Sorry.

I might add that the three toughest months to find snakes under cover objects in W. Oregon are the months of Nov., Dec. and Jan. Suitable temperature and weather conditions for finding snakes do not occur during those months every year so I try to take advantage when such situations do occur. And that was the case yesterday. I also encounter adult male boas this past January.
