Lump on veiled chameleon head?

texasluv Nov 03, 2010 11:56 PM

I have a Vieled chameleon and I have had him for about 9 months and when I got him he was young about the length of my pointer finger. (not including tail) well I was noticing the other day that he had a lump on his head and between his eyes. I tried to find on other websites what this might be and the only thing I came up with was an abscess from like a worm or cricket scratching the skin. and they said it needs to be drained right away. well thats where my problem starts where I live we do not have a reptile vet. the closest one is 3 hours away. so I was wondering if there was anyway that I could drain it my self. and if so is there someone that can tell me how. I do not want him to get a bone problem from this. Please help me. thank you.

I am not sure what you could do other than cause him a lot of discomfort. The main problem with abscesses in chams is that the contents are not liquid and easily drained. You can't just stick a needle in to remove it.

I would also think that any competent vet (with a consultation to another herp vet by phone) could open the abscess and clean it out.
