hasn't been much to report lately. this black racer was all i saw (snake-wise) in three hours of walking saturday at weedon island preserve in northern saint petersburg. There are kings and rattlers and mangrove water snakes and (my target saturday) cottonmouths in the preserve, but no luck this weekend.

I like that place, but I haven't ever found very much in a single visit, and never my target species (kings).
Last time I visited was in December 2009, and this was the only snake I saw that day:

This one was from my first ever visit there. This was my first cottonmouth anywhere.

sweet, nick. i'll log one eventually. dunno if you saw my post: i saw eight in fewer hours than that, a month ago, at snake road in southern illinois. it's a real interesting place.

I remember seeing a rat snake you posted from Snake Road; I'll look for your post. I drove right through that area on my way back from SE Missouri a couple weeks ago. I considered staying overnight to check it out, but I decided sleeping in my own bed would be nicer. I'll probably stop off there in the spring just to see what all the fuss is about.
