RES - white in webs of feet?

vivc Nov 08, 2010 03:16 PM

My RES recently developed white in the webs of his feet...my guess is it's some sort of fungi. In hopes that that's the problem, I've cleaned his tank thoroughly and am giving him lots of dry time. Some on here have talked about using betadine...is that for fungi? Is there a product I can buy to paint onto his feet, or should this clear up on its own?

The nearest exotic vet is 45 minutes away, so I'm hoping to handle this on my own.

Thanks!

Can you post a picture of his foot? Does he have a basking area? Do you have a filtration for his tank?

Thanks
Linda

No camera. He has a large basking area, and he spends quite a bit of time up there. Filtration is more than sufficient for a tank 3x the size of his.

The white almost seems fluffy?

OK, try short soaks in betadine(covering only his feet) and then rinse completely. Make sure he doesn't drink it. Rub a thin layer of triple antibiotic ointment all over his feet (you can get this at any pharmacy) I would dry dock (put him in a dry container)after for a 30 minutes after the soak and then keep his water very clean. Do this 2 times a day. Look at your temps also. Keep the water at 70-74 degrees and the basking area at 85-90. This should encourage him to bask which should prevent the problem from re-occuring. Is spite of what many people think, they do best without a water heater if a room is kept at at least 70 degrees.

Good luck and give me an update
Linda
