Bredli a weaker snake?

scottico Nov 10, 2010 11:46 AM

I recently purchased a 6-foot Bredli. I've never owned one before and noticed the following differences between the Bredli and my Columbian Boa and my JCP:

The Bredli doesn't wrap around my arm and hold me. He is calm but sort of hangs and then moves around. He doesn't demonstrate the strength of my JCP which is about 3/5 the weight of the Bredli.

Is this common for adult Bredls? I've watched Youtube videos of people handling adults and noticed that the snakes don't really wrap around and hold on; but I've held smaller specimens that did.

I am sure that someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think adult M. bredli are as arboreal as their cousins (e.g. M. spilota). This would explain your observation.

Cheers,
Chris

The behaviors of carpet pythons changes as they get older and larger. They shift from being a largley arboreal "sit and wait predator" to a more terrrestrial apex predator.
