JCP x Diamond off feed

pythonaddict Nov 13, 2010 08:42 AM

We've had our male jcp x diamond cross for about six years now. In those six years, he's never turned down food. Ever. He's eaten when ever it was offered. But for the past month, he's had no interest in eating. He's a little better than 7 foot now, but has never been as thick as some of the other jungles we have seen. Could it be he's finally reached a point he's going to slow down and not eat as often?

It is possible. Keep an eye on his weight. If he starts loosing weight, you might have a problem.

Nothing else has changed? Cage location, temp, etc...?

Absolutely nothing. No temp change, no humidity, nothing different in the enclosure.

We are wondering if maybe it's discomfort with the size of his feed tank. We are in the process of trying to find or make something bigger. We will see.

Quite possibly he's looking to breed..if he's roaming alot more than normal as well that would be my guess. I'm suprised he hasn't fasted before.

Most snakes stop eating around this time because of the shorter days and cooler temps. My JCP stopped eating around the same time. They'll pick it back up in the spring.

I wondered about wanting to be bred. He is six or so years old. And while we don't have a female jcp, we do have a female ball that he is housed in the same room with, and he may have smelled her when the rest of our boys did.

It wouldn't so much concern me if this had happened before. But it hasn't. As unbelievable as this sounds, he really has never denied food. Well, he did once for about two days, when he was constipated. But as soon as he went, he ate. I've always called him the clean up man, a furious eater who never failed not to give a show. He'll still strike at it, but loses interest. Hubby tried again last night and after one strike and miss, he ignored it.

Thanks everyone for your help.
