RES eating basking dock

actf Nov 13, 2010 03:14 PM

My RES has been eating her basking dock and I am not sure why. At first I thought she was still hungry so I would feed her but she would immediately start eating the dock afterwards. Then I tried Turtle Bone thinking she needed to chew on something. She ignored it. I am at a loss. Over time, she has eaten a decent size chunk out of the dock, since she seems to be smart enough to do it when I am not around. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.

What is her dock make out of?

It seems to be some type of durable styrofoam to me. It's the Zoo Med Turle Doc. Here is a link to it: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752662

I have the same exact problem and just posted on the forum about it. I have no idea what to do to prevent her from doing it. I've done all the same things you have! I have to buy a new dock every couple months! If you come across any solutions let me know!

It was the oddest thing when my RES was eating her basking dock. So as odd as her behavior began, it oddly stopped. Not sure why but she just stopped. So sorry I don't have any gratuitous advice on this. I hope your turtle stops one day like mine did.
