Dose anyone know the minimum breeding age for a female? I have a female who is a year old and 18 inches long and 400 grams. Do you think she can be bred at this age? Thanks

It would be better for her if you waited. But, she is old and large enough.

Ok thanks. But if I bred her now do you think everything would be ok? I just am confused because some websites say at least 350 grams and others say 18 months old.

Typically the minimum age is at least 15 months with 18 months or older being better. Minimum weight is 350g. This ensures the female is done most of her growing so she isn't using up resources in egg development that should go to her growing.

Your girl can still be bred for the 2011 season, just I would recommend it be a late breeding... If she's still active and not showing signs of wanting to brumate, keep everything the same and she probably grow more over the next couple months. As it isn't always necessary for dragons to brumate for them to produce eggs, you can introduce a male in late spring...(May-June) (if your girl is 12 months right now...she will be 18 months in May. April would be fine too...especially if your girl puts on another couple inches and more weight.

I think the larger, heavier, older the better. Many females will lay 6 clutches back to back once they get started. This takes a lot out of them. The greater the starting weight the better since it can be challenging sometimes to get their weight to fully recover between clutches. Even harder to get a growing dragon to gain weight during this time. It makes sense to wait until the dragon reaches their full size/weight potential. Early egg laying would likely slow or stunt her full potential.

If the question is will she survive laying eggs at her size? Yes most likely it won't be a problem. It's just not the ideal time.
