giving injections

well the date with the needle now seems unavoidable. my half dwarf burm seems to have something(we have a vet app monday) and im sure treatment will be a course of injecetions. ive never givin a shot to anything and needless to say im more than a little conserened. any advice on what to expect and even a little "how to" would be great. just a little nervous. thanks chris

Hopefully the vet will give you the proper instruction for giving these injections. You will need to use an injection site about a third of the way back from the head and into the large dorsal muscles on each side of the vertebrae. Obviously between the scales and angling in from the rear taking care not go completely through the muscle. Some drugs are injected subcutaneous, or just under the skin, but antibiotics are generally required to be into muscle tissue. There are other minor details, but again, the vet will go through all of this for you before hand and I'm sure demo the first injection. It really isn't too difficult. Additionally, an assistant to hold the snake is imperative until you get really good at it.

thank you, her appointment is tomorrow just trying to see what all i am in for. although she shed lastnight, all in one piece and seems to be feeling better.thanks for the post on f10 also i think id like to try some of that. chris
