Jungle Carpet Python rubbing his nose

Midnight777 Nov 25, 2010 10:57 AM

I have had a JCP for 2 months. He's 4 1/2ft long and he is rubbing his nose on himself and sometimes the glass. I dont think it can be shedding because he hasnt turned "blue" yet. What could this mean?

we rescued a redtail boa that had BAD nose rub, and in his case, he was in a wooden cage, he was 5 ft and he was caged along with a 6 ft boa, they both had RI but he was the only one with nose rub, his temp wasnt accurate nore was the humidity. needless to say we concluded his nose rub was from stress and unaddiquite care... Maybe theres something going on with his housing that isnt suting him. we have a diamond/costal, hes 3 yrs old, in a 55 gallon aquarium, on cypress mulch, water bowl, rocks and some sticks. and hes doing just fine in that. hope i helped?

it could mean a pile of things. like someone already stated.

BUT my guess would be that he is probably in an enclosure that is too small for him. These are rather large mobile snakes UNLIKE a compact docile ball python. Some people do toss carpets into tight fitting bins, i DONT, and have NO issues with mine.

I house my 2 granite females that are 4 foot long in 4x2x2 enclosures with cypress mulch substrate AND provide climbing branches. Which they use all the time, as a matter of fact they spend about 75% of their time on them and about 25% on their hot spot. Be sure that his temps are good and that there is a gradient within his enclosure. Aquariums do NOT hold humidity too well. Also be sure that his enclosure is not in a high traffic area.

Hope some of this helps.
