Which Lizard to Get?

bassturtle Nov 30, 2010 01:20 PM

I have an empty 10 gallon tank that used to house fish, but all have died over the years. The tank blocks a shelf my cat used to use to get to my wife's birds. After months of discussions (AKA me pleading her saying no :D) I finally got her to agree to let me put a lizard in there. Question is what type of lizard can adequately live in a 10 gallon tank. Checked with my local pet store and they said a Anole (SP?) or a Leopard Gecko. However they also sold me a RES with that same 10 gallon tank many a years ago saying that was sufficient (I have since upgrade3d to a 155 Gallon tank and three more turtles since). So I figured before I spent the money I would ask here.

Yeah, 10 gallons is going to be pretty small for a leopard gecko. There are some smaller gecko species that would work though, and are equally cool. I like viper-tailed geckos myself. They're docile and interesting to watch; and you can handle them, although as with most reptiles excessive handling is not recommended. Anoles will probably work too, although in my experience they're actually harder to keep than the small gecko species.
