False Water Cobras/Local RF keepers

Potato_Snakes Dec 06, 2010 08:50 PM

Can anyone tell me a little bit about False Water Cobras? I've heard different things concerning how venomous they are. I've heard different things.

Also, I live in Boise, Idaho. Looking for anyone local, (tri-state area) that keeps or breeds rear-fanged. I'd be open to trades or outright purchase. I'm having a tough time finding anyone who has anything except Mangroves.

false water cobras are not medically significant, but that doesn't tell us much other than your not going to die or lose a limb. unfortunately there is not a whole lot of real, scientifically documented, info on any rear fanged snake/venoms. i've seen a photo essay where a fella let his western hog-nosed snake chew on him for a while with only swelling and tingling for around 72 hours. also i have seen necrosis, tissue death, in a photo that was said to be from a mangrove. basicly a grey area except boomslangs and twig snakes. which can kill you.

here is a "first hand" account of a fwc bite. (it gets to the point about 2/3rds the way through.)

here is a thread and a link to a care sheet.

also i've heard you may have extreme diarrhea with fwc and mangs, though i don't know if this is true and i did not experiance this from a black mangrove bite.

Thanks! That site you provided was excellent. I have yet to take a bite from the Mangrove I have...although she did graze my forehead with her open mouth a while back. That was my bad. She can go from passive to Defcon III in a second...keeps me on my toes! She's much faster than even the Amazon Tree Boas I have. It's also a lot harder to hook her than the Amazons...they generally just coil up on the hook & refuse to let it go.
