Got the female Macklot's out tonight - personally I think she looks nicer than the male I posted last week, but it was really hard getting a good light balance because of the high contrast in colors on her head. Regardless, she's still one of my favorite animals in our collection!

Thanks, me too! Too bad nobody else does...lol. They're such an underappreciated genus!

"underappreciated genus"

yeah most Liasis are, i work a bunch of different ones: savu, waters and macks. I think its because most of the hobby is into morph type snakes and that people hear false info on them about being mean, which is just not true. My adults are puppy dog tame, babies are nippy but seems to go away with age. Glad to see others getting into them.

Cool! Do you breed your macks? I'd like to produce some next year hopefully...that is if they'd start eating again. Every year that I've had them they go off feed all winter even with normal summertime light and heat.

hey jeff, yes i produce macklots. I work with the Timor locales right now, im working on getting some of the other locales next year. Around breeding time my male will stop feeding and only want to breed and the female will do the same.

That's what mine have been doing. It surprised me the first year because everything I'd read about the species (which admittedly wasn't much because there's not much out there) said about their really strong feeding response.

I contacted Dave Barker at VPI and he confirmed that theirs did the same thing... I assumed that mine were ready to breed because they were going off feed, but after further discussion with Dave I found out that my female is WAY smaller than when they start breeding theirs.

Mine are about 3 years old right now but because of these feeding strikes they're not as big as they should be, so I'm going to give them a year or so yet.

How large are your females when you begin breeding them?

On another note, it's funny that I'm getting this message right now. I just came down from misting everyone and my female gave me a nice show. She freaks out at the slightest thing sometimes...for example I can't hook her or she'll musk. Tonight she was in her hide box and I started misting. When she came out, her head and about 4" of her body was covered in real thick, tan musk... she's the only one of my snakes that will do that on a regular basis, but I think it's the fact that it smells eerily similar to peanut butter that really grosses me out...

No way- another HUGE Liasis fan here!

I've got an olive and a water pair and have been looking for a nice Savu pair... I do not want to buy from a pet store/reptile factory of sorts.
