JCP feeding question

Midnight777 Dec 11, 2010 10:06 PM

I have had my 4.5ft jcp for around 3 months now. He is currently on 4 large mice per week. Is this considered too much food (powerfeeding)? All the breeders I've talked to have said its fine so im just wondering if im ok on feeding.

At 4.5' he still has some growing to do. If he looks nice and lean like a JCP should and his food energy is going to growth not fat then I feel you're fine with this. He apparently is having no problems processing meals of this size. If I were to guess I would say he's probably shed at least 2 times since you got him and probably getting ready to go blue if he isn't already.

I let my babies and juvie snakes tell me how much they want to eat. I offer it, if they eat it, process it and come out acting hungry within about 5 days then I see it as proper feeding as it's all going to growth. Nothing wrong with maximizing the growth potential of a young animal. As adults I limit their feedings to maitain good weight but not get fat.

Are you planning on getting him a lady friend?

He hasn't shed since I got him but im guessing hes about to because he's been acting a little aggressive over that past couple of days. Looking at him, his girth at the widest spot is between 1 inch and 1 1/2 inches.

And, no I will not be getting him a mate. If I do, it will be in a couple of years.
