I have 4 4ft cages that i have just built and was looking for some info on how to light them, i have found a light at wal mart called a under cabinet light, 17 watts 75 watt light output, 24 inch long fluorescent. Would this work or would it be too bright? Thanks Clark

I like to use the Slimline lights. They are easily concealed and provide excellent lighting. I suggest mounting on the ceiling in the front part of the cage because they are hidden from view. Plus the light that emits from it will cast down and towards the rear of the cage as opposed to blinding you as you look in. I get them at Home Depot, about $20 a pop. The size of the Slimline will depend on how much light you want, depending on the type of critters you are housing. A 23" Slimline in a 48" L cage will be very lit up, but will be ok if the decor seems to accept it. Otherwise I would suggest going with a smaller size. Hope this helps!

I agree with the other comment - if you mount the light close to the front of the cage, it is easier on the eyes when you are servicing the cage.

You will not need to go with a larger light, that is for sure. You could go smaller if you want or need to. Personal taste certainly applies. I tend to prefer the smallest size that enables viewing. I have used smaller bulbs than you have listed for similar-sized cages that have worked well.
