Best worms for leos?

gaiaspriestess Dec 22, 2010 01:39 PM

A coworker of my husband's wants to get rid of his leo. I said I'd take it if it is not sick, as I already have 7 animals and can't afford to take another to the vet. My husband sent me an email that said his coworker "has to check to see if it's alive tonight". This makes me think he has not been feeding it regularly (we live in a very rural area, hard to get crickets reliably). If it is just thin, I can beef him up. I know I can use waxworms for this. For a regular diet though, what is the best worm to use? I can't do crickets because I have the worst time keeping them alive and we live in an apartment, so escapees would be very bad. I was thinking trevo/butterworms would be a good option. I kept leos for years, but I always fed them crickets before (when we lived in a more urban area).

use super worms or meal worms. Wax worms are only for a treat for leopards.

What about horn worms, silk worms, and Trevo/butter worms? I don't mind ordering them. The closest pet store to me is 40 minutes away, so it would be easier for me if I could order them in bulk and keep them in my fridge or something like that. Which is the most nutritionally complete?

All those are pretty much treats too. Order super worms or meal worms from New York worms. A great site and great price on the count of product.

Got Dido home tonight. She has some stuck shed on her toes, even after giving her a short bath and trying to gently remove it. She ate 2 waxworms and 4 mealworms. Any idea what color morph she is?

Patternless to Super Hypo Tangerine would be my guess. Try soaking it a little more and it should come off. You also know on the kind of gecko more in a few months.

She looks like a tang to me.
For the stuck shed soak her 3 times a day for three days in warm water (not over her head) for about 10 minutes each. You should eventually be able to roll the shed off the end of her toe with a wet cloth.

I'm sorry, but that is THE thinnest leo I have ever seen.

get a few dozen mealworms and start a colony. It's super easy. I have thousands but I feed a lot of lizards. You can find lots of videos on youtube about it.
