East African SBs and shedding

CarlKoch Dec 26, 2010 09:26 AM

My EASBs keep having stuck shed problems, so I finally put in a humid hide and was surprised to find that one of the boas that was not in shed climbed in. Just curious as to whether or not anyone one else has sand boas that seem to like humidity.

I use a "damp box" with my sand boas. They use it quite often. If your animals are not having good sheds, then they need a area that more suits there need to shed.

I can't remember the source references, so I can't say anything for certain, but I have read in several places that EASBs live in high humidity micro-climates. As you probably know, they are sand dwelling desert creatures. They are known to live in areas that are low-moderate humidity, but are also said to spend their lives in small pockets with moderate-high humidity.
From personal experience, many of my EASBs have spent a large amount of time in humidity boxes and underneath hides that build up moisture.
