Gecko Identification

NewWorldSerpents Dec 29, 2010 12:18 PM

Hello,

I am looking to identify this species of gecko. It is approximately 8" in length. I am pretty familiar with geckos, but I cannot seem to find an ID for this girl.

Thank you for your time.

Cheers,
Michael Starkey

Is this something you found? If so where? Is it something you purchased? If so what was it sold as?

It kind of looks like a Turnip Tailed Gecko (Thecadactylus rapicauda) but I'm not entirely convinced.

Hello Zach,

This gecko currently resides at my college. I am responsible for the husbandry of the collection of animals, but this gecko's identity is a mystery to me. I originally thought it was Thecadactylus rapicauda, but after finding a ton in Panama (see photo below), I have ruled that species out. When comparing the two I found that the eyes and feet are much different.

This gecko has no known history, but I am assuming it was purchased from a Pet Store in California. I have never seen this species for sale before though.

Thank you for your help.

Cheers,
Michael
